Joey's otherworldly ceramics are distinguished by his use of unusual 'curdle' & 'frothy' textures and bold color palette.
The work of artist Joey Watson investigates ceremonial paraphernalia and the places and ways it functions. Watson is interested in the supernatural potential that the objects represent and channel, inventing rituals, establishing environments, and engaging with the work in ways both utilitarian and spiritual. Since receiving his Bachelors of Fine Art at Kansas City Art Institute in Missouri, Watson has shown his work in St. Louis, Portland, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Boston, and New York City. He's a recipient of the Regina Brown Fellowship for research of ritual artifacts in NYC via the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), and of a Partner Scholarship at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington.
